July Days!

Somewhere, I guess in a comment on a previous blog of mine, someone wrote…“those lazy, crazy, hazy, days of summer…” and attributed those to a song by the late singer, Nat King Cole. I wrote down the words but didn’t get the name of the song or the name of the individual leaving the comment. But about this time every year, the last of July or the beginning of August, the words somehow manage to find themselves back into my memory. When this happened last year, I promised myself that this year I’d post about it.

Nat King Cole’s words resonate with me because that’s exactly how I remember and view summer: lazy, crazy and hazy. All that with fun and excitement thrown into the mix, just enough to make life interesting. Like the guys lounging on their floats in the pool (above picture), now that’s the epitome of lazy, regardless of how crazy they may be otherwise. This isn’t meant as a judgment, after all, summer days are intended to be lazy, crazy and hazy.

Just as pools were made for us to lounge in and cool off. That’s all a part of our “summer way of life.” These pools were also designed for us to have a clear place for us to skinny-dip. A place where our friends and others to have unobstructed view of our body’s anatomical delights.

Our summer’s occasionally really become hazy, especially when we’re given unclear  instructions (such as what to do next) or directions (such as where to go next). Our hazy selves sometimes may never solve what happens next (or we may simply become too engrossed with our own bareness and the nudity of those around us)!

We may spend (waste) an inordinate amount of time trying to solve the riddle, “What do we do now.” This leads to confusion and frustration for the vast majority, if not all, of us. Summers were not created to involve so many decisions!

With the end result being that we, in anger and exasperation, give up on ever understanding what’s supposed to happen  and simply trudge off on our own. At least it is summer and none of us are bothered about being bare and outside in a park. Since we’re all naked and in the park, I’m sure we can all find something fun to do together! Just as the guys above discovered below!

The theme for this photo opportunity must have been “buttocks out for action, dudes!”  There’s no shame for their game!

These two guys are just happy to be together out in the open, without a soul to bother their tender moment and without any clothing to conceal their bodies from one another. They’re happy just gazing into one another’s eyes and spending time together. Another carefree and lazy summer day outdoors. This one reminds us of the words that Nat King Cole sang in his song extolling the joys of summer.

I did an online search and was able to identify and get the words of the Nat King Cole song. The title was (surprisingly for me, at least) Lazy, Hazy Crazy Days of Summer. The song was both recorded and released in 1963.

Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer

Roll out those lazy, hazy crazy days of summer

Those days of soda and pretzels and beer

Roll out those lazy hazy crazy days of summer

Dust off the sun and moon and sing a song of cheer

Just fill your basket full of sandwiches and weenies

Then lock the house up, now you’re set

And on the beach you’ll see the girls in their bikinis

As cute as ever but they never get ’em wet

Roll out those lazy, hazy crazy days of summer

Those days of soda and pretzels and beer

Roll out those lazy hazy crazy days of summer

You’ll wish that summer could always be here.

Don’t hafta tell a girl and fella about a drive-in

Or some romantic moon it seems

Right from the moment those two lovers start arrivin’

You’ll see more kissin’ in the cars than on the screen

Roll out those lazy hazy crazy days of summer

Those days of soda and pretzels and beer

Roll out those lazy hazy crazy days of summer

You’ll wish that summer could always be here

The summer of 1963 was a long time ago and much in the world has changed since then. However, I think that the song allows us to recall a time of being carefree when we all looked at the world as being within our grasp. Now that my university is on our annual summer break, it sums up my feelings at this moment.

The two dudes relaxing in the pool (above) are just as mesmerized by one another as the couple in the field (previous photo). They are both especially lazy in the summer sun and are unconcerned about what others may think, which is as it should be. None of us owe anyone an apology for who and what we are. We are all simply being ourselves and enjoying our lives. For me, that sums up the meaning of Nat King Cole’s lyrics. We should all just be who we are and accept others as they are.

“Who are you to judge the life I live? I am not perfect and I don’t have to be! Before you start pointing fingers, make sure your hands are clean!” ~ Bob Marley ~

We can all enjoy summer all year long, no matter where we live. We may not all have the heat and the sunshine, but the “lazy, hazy and crazy” can always be with us!

Naked hugs!

  1. Thank you! I want to give a general thank you for consistently showing men of color in your posts. I have read enough of your blogs to understand why you would but even so, you don’t have to as much as you do.

Too often men of color as sexualized by ourselves or by others and pornography is the default image of a person of color. There are too few instances of men of color shown in nudism/ naturalism shown as simply nude men. Thank you for highlighting that men of color can be nude and not merely hyper-sexualize men for only pornographic intent.

  2. in summer all the people are wanting to escape from the hot weather and they are wanted to be naked ,they are going to the sea having somethings full of water, they are not wanting to be lazy and wanting to enjoy, they have freedom to be naked without clothes ,it is no problem to travel to the sea to be naked to feel that they have freedom to do anything

  3. Thanks for being so open with nudity, and not making it into a pornagraphic meat market. Most of the time for one reason or another, nudity is equal to actual sex. It has nothing to do with sex.
I wish I could pick at your brain on your writing skills. I’m a new blogger and would love some guidance.
    Thanks, AJ
