A Decade Later!

Reflections over the past decade!

All of us have “transition” moments, events or periods in our individual lives when a change began or occurred that altered our journey. Some are recognized and easily remembered and others merely fade into memory. Ten years ago today, July 19, 2011, such an occasion happened for me.

Just before receiving my undergraduate degree, I became an HIV/AIDS prevention education instructor for my local chapter of the American Red Cross. I volunteered for this because of the devastation effect this disease had on three distinct communities that I was a part of: Deaf, same gender loving (gay) and the naturist/nudist following. I felt the underlying need to inform others of the necessary preventions to change the situation. This initiated a dedication to the Red Cross from that moment until ten years ago today.

I progressed from a chapter instructor involved with my communities to the next level as an instructor-trainer with the Red Cross – I became the person who taught others how to conduct educational sessions. In my local chapter, I eventually became the chapter’s HIV/AIDS prevention education chairman. During this time, my instructor-trainer category expanded into three different categories: basics (general population), African-American, and into the Workplace curriculum. All of these positions were voluntary with no financial compensation nor expectation.

Outside of my local chapter, I was encouraged to join a Washington, D.C., metropolitan task force of Red Cross chapters created to design and implement a fundamental peer education curriculum focusing on teenage educators. For almost three years we engaged in the job of building a group that would perform educational outreach to their own age group on prevention skills and techniques to their peers in reducing risks of HIV infection.

My longevity with the local and national American Red Cross HIV/AIDS prevention education movement ended on this date a decade ago. My co-instructor and I met to set-up for our last class together – which lasted from July 25 – July 29, 2011, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. After renewing our identifications for the National Capitol Area chapter we unloaded our equipment and textbooks and organized the materials in the order needed. After a morning of work, we concluded our togetherness with a nice quiet lunch.

Over the course of our social meal, we both engaged in the acknowledgement that this would be the very last class that we would teach together for the national faculty. The American Red Cross no longer received government funds to continue to the HIV/AIDS education prevention curriculum and the national effort was rapidly disappearing. Supplies were no longer provided and curriculum development had ceased.

As our conversation progressed, we recalled many instances from our past eleven years of co-teaching classes where humor and silliness invaded our shared classroom – both from the students and ourselves! Our teamwork had created a very productive environment for not only those we taught but for us, as well!

After a total of almost two decades of time with the American Red Cross HIV awareness and prevention efforts, my voluntary “secondary” career drew to a close. It felt good to know that I had made a difference in the lives of others. A reward that I continue to cherish even today.

August, 2021: Homeward Bound!

Twins!

It is now officially confirmed! My identical twin brother, Alex, and I will spend almost the entire month of August, 2021, with our mother – and the rest of our brothers and their families – in Greece. Since our father’s death in November, 2018, our matriarch has been stoic and in good health. However, lately, she is suffering with depression and missing our father (completely understandable).

So, Alex and I are attempting to give the rest of our familial tribe a break from maternal duties and cares and try to liven her mood and entertain her in our own special way – unfortunately, we’ll have to burden ourselves with clothing for the better part of the month! No one else in our family is as enthusiastic about being active bare practitioners as we both are!

Identical brothers!

While we’re at our Mom’s, we’ll have moments to ourselves and can comfortably relax while completely bare. There is a promise of relief from cumbersome garments in that way and of course, skinny-dipping is always an option!

I plan to continue publishing ReNude Pride while away but with a minor modification for the month of August, 2021. I will continue with post entries at least one per week for the duration of my absence from home. Our priority is spending quality time with our mother!

Aaron, my spouse, does intend to join us around the middle of the month as we celebrate our 6th Anniversary together! At this moment, we have no knowledge of when – or if – Twin’s partner will be able to make a trip over.

Naked hugs!

International Skinny Dip Day!

Pool volleyball!

Today is designated International Skinny Dip Day (ISDD) by the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR). It is observed annually on the second Saturday of July. A date originally used to challenge the record on the largest number of skinny-dippers in one location. It evolved from that goal into a “day of fun in the sun!”

Skinny-dipping couple!

Skinny-dipping simply means swimming naked. Unless designated for a particular purpose, it has no official agenda aside from having fun and playing in the water, whether it is an indoor or outdoor pool, ocean, lake or river. The sole unifying factor is being in the water without any swimsuit!

Let the good times begin!
Toss away your suits and skinny-dip!

For those of us who live in the Northern Hemisphere, this date falls during our summer season, ample opportunity for many skinny-dipping experiences during the ideal temperatures!

Happy International Skinny Dip Day!

Take care and stay bare!

2021 Nude Recreation Week!

Compliance #1: stripping!

Nude Recreation Week: July 5 – 11, 2021

Nude Recreation Week commences today and lasts officially for as long as it is supposed to: exactly one week. However, we all know that our pursuit of leisure and pleasure in our lives extends beyond a simple seven-day quest. My spouse, Aaron, and I attest to that fact – so, unofficially, what we denote as Nude Recreation Week essentially becomes lifelong!

Recreation (in easy terms) is any undertaking we engage for enjoyment, fun, improvement, relaxation and/or socialization. The choices are endless and unrestricted – the exception being July 5 – 11, 2021. It is, after all, Nude Recreation Week (no clothes allowed)! It is either be bare or be banned (no compromise permitted)!

Compliance #2: exploration!

Nude Recreation Week is co-sponsored by the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) and The Naturist Society (TNS) annually. The week-long observance began in 1976 as simply a weekend event (the nude weekend). In 2019, AANR designated the second Saturday in July as International Skinny Dipping Day.

International Skinny Dip Day (ISDD) logo!

Despite the “international” determination, it remains unclear exactly how truly world-wide the ISDD is celebrated. However, if it only brings one additional nude swimmer into the water, it is well worth all the effort!

Happy Nude Recreation Week to everyone!

Happy USA Day!

USA Day!

Just before the revolutionary war began, on this date, July 4, 1776, the declaration of independence was signed by the delegates to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At that time, no official flag had been adopted by this country.

Happy USA Day to everyone reading and visiting here!

Happy Canada Day!

Bare wrapped in the Canadian flag!

On this date, July 1, 1867, the British North America Act went into effect and created the Dominion of Canada, uniting the separate colonies of Canada, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The act formally divided the province of Canada into two different provinces, English-speaking Ontario and French-speaking Quebec. The self-governing Canada retained Queen Victoria as sovereign Queen of Canada, a role continued to this very day by her great-great granddaughter, H.M. Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada.

Over the years, Canada has expanded from the northeast geographic area into a large nation bordered between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and south of the Arctic Circle. The national languages are both English and French!

Bottoms-Up! June, 2021

Bottoms-Up! Bare Practitioner Pride month, 2021

June is recognized as a very significant day within the same gender loving community – unfortunately, it is also only a 30-day month. So all too soon, it seems as though we just began celebrating pride when it is now the end of our month. Please remember that we, as bare practitioners, are entitled to pride not just during the month of June but for every day of the year!

Bottoms-up! pool float!

We, as loyal bare practitioners, share this month – at least, in the Northern Hemisphere, with the arrival of our summer season and quite naturally, skinny-dipping (ocean, lake, river or a welcoming pool)!

Balance: tree limb!

No matter where we live, there’s always an opportunity to enjoy ourselves – bottoms-up! – for everyone!

Proud bare practitioners!

Take care and stay bare!

Inspiration For Pride!

A bare practitioner wearing a smile, thumbs-up and a rainbow garland!

52 years ago today, on June 28, 1969, the Stonewall Inn uprising occurred in New York City, USA, and that has changed not only our lives but history – forever!

The majority of us bare practitioners are aware of the significance of the event at the Stonewall Inn and the consequences. Many remain struggling for acceptance and tolerance even now, more than half a century after that fateful and historic night. Our accomplishments since then have served to deliver courage, determination and hope to those among us who daily fight against bigotry, discrimination and hate.

A punch against judgment!

To those brave souls continuing the struggle, ReNude Pride congratulates on your commitment and salutes you in your efforts! Hopefully, you’ll achieve a positive resolution in the very near future!

The Stonewall Inn, 1969
The riot is underway!

The above two images are from the site and the ensuing riot. The passage of time since the uprising have been captured in people’s minds and in publications shared the world over. As bare practitioners, we’re aware that the 1960’s era produced countless riots and demonstrations throughout the world and the civil rights of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer (GLBTQ) community followed in the footsteps of the path of equality for race, feminism, the end to the Vietnam War and for civil and social justice for all people.

Of course, we all – bare practitioner or not – understand that the turbulance of the 1960’s did not encompass immediate acceptance of clothes freedom. Therefore, there is a severe shortage of images of our GLBTQ protesters in their natural (bare) environment!

Bare practitioner at a gay-friendly resort!

Prior to the Stonewall Inn riot is 1969, the then homosexual (before GLBTQ+) community was angry, frustrated and very tired of the second and third class of citizenship status they were forced to suffer. In the spirit of the times, they spontaneously decided they’d had enough. The protest of June 28, 1969, became the proverbial “straw that broke the camel’s back!” There was no “turning back the clock” and history – worldwide – began in a totally alien and new direction!

Lip-reading message: “Thank you!”

Finally, before concluding this 52nd anniversary of the Stonewall Inn uprising post, on behalf of my spouse, Aaron, myself and everyone reading here, I offer a very humble and sincere “thank you” to all of those bold, brave and courageous people who led the insurrection! We appreciate you and your efforts!

Take care and stay bare!
