Happy Dominion of Canada Day!

July 1, every year, is the national holiday of the Dominion of Canada. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the creation of the Dominion of Canada with the parliamentary ratification of the British North America Act which united the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec under Queen Victoria. Over the years since July 1, 1867, other provinces and territories joined the original four that now comprise the Dominion of Canada.

Canada today is one of the world’s most progressive nations and a leader among all those who advocate human rights, freedom and equality for all peoples, everywhere. Canada has long welcomed new immigrants irregardless of the national origin or religious affiliation.

The red and white Maple Leaf flag has long symbolized tolerance and cooperation in a world that has frequently forgotten or ignored the meanings of those ideals.
