This past weekend, Aaron, my spouse, and I journeyed down to the Tidewater, Virginia, area to help my first cousin, Michael Poladopoulos, and his partner (who prefers not being named here) prepare and celebrate their yearly winter holiday charitable event. It consists of a bare gathering for the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” campaign to collect new toys for children in need so that they may share in the season’s happiness.
Michael, my cousin, lives in the city of Hampton, Virginia. The surrounding area, known as Tidewater, Virginia, consists of the cities of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk and Portsmouth. The surrounding counties are also considered as a part of the Tidewater region.
Michael and his local bare practitioner’s (naturist or nudist) group host a winter holiday gathering with an admission donation of at least one unwrapped holiday gift appropriate for a young person ages 16 or younger for either gender. Michael has been involved with this project since 2010. He teaches at a nearby secondary school and solicits gift donations from his faculty colleagues as many of them aren’t comfortable without their clothing.
Aaron and I drove to Michael’s town-home early Saturday morning. We arrived in time for lunch there and then proceeded to help them decorate for the gathering. Actually, I helped Michael’s partner decorate as Aaron and Michael were both busy in the kitchen preparing treats for the Sunday afternoon social.
This social nudity party is sponsored by Michael’s local club of same gender loving bare practitioners. As Aaron and I have helped with this every year except for the last, we are acquaintances with almost the entire group. It was a very good experience being with them again and involving ourselves in an activity that helps to bring some joy to those children who are less fortunate.
This year, the club was able to collect a total of 107 items for the “Toys For Tots” program. A basket for cash donations received $97.00 to enable the program to purchase winter holiday treats that will be offered to the adults when they distribute the gifts for their children.
A delightful weekend for a delightful charity!
