The Obama Presidential Center was dedicated on 18 June 2026 – the Juneteenth holiday being the day after and the first day of opening! A perfect way to commemorate the Juneteenth holiday and the 250th anniversary of the USA! Both Aaron, my spouse, and I agree that this dedication and grand opening are ideal for this remarkable anniversary, especially during these turbulent and uncertain times in this country.
This incredible center includes a museum, community and conference facilities, the presidential library (fully digitized) and offices of the not-for-profit Obama Foundation. Also on site are a location of the Chicago Public Library, a community athletic facility and a public park.
The official portrait of our amazing, awesome, exceptional, honest and sincere president! He consistently espoused care for others, change for better, hope for the future and equality for all! He openly acknowledged his personal hesitation and reservation on endorsing marriage equality, but after careful consideration, he boldly admitted his weakness and respected the “law-of-the-land!” A truly qualified leader of this nation, an example for all!
Even though Aaron and I didn’t meet until 2010, we individually campaigned for his nomination and election in 2008 and as an unofficial couple four years later. I personally met the then-candidate Obama twice in 2008, once being a total surprise for us both. I was in person at his frigid inauguration in 2009 and despite the freezing outdoor temperatures, it was a glorious day!
Summer provides me with an official “break” (respite) between semesters at my university, therefore I had no job obligations to prevent me from attending the opening of the Obama Presidential Center. However, as the event occurred over the Juneteenth weekend, Aaron was unable to take time off from the hospital where he’s employed. I knew better than to even entertain the thought of going there alone!
The dedication of this facility is an ideal example of the fulfillment of the dreams and goals of those who have sacrificed their lives for this country. It represents the best that we offer: hope and progress. Without disparaging others, it achieves a union in faith and spirit with the Founding Fathers (and Mothers) and celebrates us all!
Thank you Mr and Mrs Obama for all that you have done for all of us!

This post was such a great tribute to such a great man who was our 44th president. When I see him talk to groups now, it saddens me to realize how things have gotten in our country. I really miss him as our president.
