Happy Canada Day!

Today, July 1, is Canada Day, celebrating the creating of the Dominion of Canada on this date in 1867. This event was the enactment of the British North America Act which unified the colonies of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec into the autonomous dominion under Queen Victoria as Queen of Canada. Today is Canada’s national holiday and warmest regards to Canadians everywhere!

The gif. image above is of the current flag of Canada that is undoubtedly proudly flying all across Canada and above Canadian embassies all over the world. The Maple Leaf has long been considered a national logo of the dominion.

Elizabeth II is the Queen of Canada today as her great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, died in 1901. Now, Canada consists of ten provinces (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Saskatchewan) and the territories of Northwest, Nunavut and Yukon. Modern Canada stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean.

Both of Aaron’s (my spouse) parents were born and grew up in Canada. Aaron’s father is the great-grandson of a runaway slave who escaped north to freedom. Both of his parents still regard themselves as Canadian subjects and proudly keep the flag mounted in their home here. They like living here but are very strongly loyal to both Canada and to their queen. More power to them!

While I was an undergraduate at university, there were a number of Canadian students in my class. One of them was also a nude model along with me for several of the art and photography classes. His family lived on Prince Edward Island and during the winter months here, he was always impressed with the “mild” winters that we endured. It was then that I realized and finally understood that the further north we went, the colder it got. Until that time, I merely assumed that winter everywhere was just as cold as it was here.

Now that summer is officially here, I’m certain there are many Canadians today, skinny-dipping as they celebrate Canada’s national holiday!

Happy Canada Day!

Naked hugs!

  2. Great post! I grew up in upstate NY, just 20 minutes from the Canadian border, so I have a special affinity for Canada. I spent three weeks in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia years ago, and I fell in love with the place.

  3. I have very positive impressions, memories and experiences from visits in Canada and of Canadians. There is some sort of ”soulmate” feeling between Canada and Sweden (very much in general, I know). Might have to do with the similarities in climate and nature, valid especially for Nova Scotia. 🇨🇦🇸🇪
