The new academic year began for me almost weeks ago. A new journey with new faces and new students to enlighten and to inspire (hopefully). It is also exciting for me, personally and professionally, as I am one of a team of three professors collaborating on a new class being offered this semester. As this upcoming November 11, 2018, marks the centenary of the signing of the armistice that ended the Great War of 1914-1918 (World War I), this particular class offers a retrospective on that event, the “war to end all wars.”

Remembering E. Lynn Harris
June 20, 1955 – July 23, 2009
The late E. Lynn Harris was one of my favorite contemporary authors of gay and bisexual fiction. His stories first came to my attention in the early 1990’s and he remains one of my all-time favorite fiction writers to this day, despite his sudden death in the summer of July, 2009. His novels entertained and introduced modern readers to the almost invisible lives of Black same gender loving (gay) and Black dual gender loving (bisexual) men during a time when there were, literally, very few examples of them in any form of print media.
Reflections: End of June, 2018
We are now facing the end of June, 2018 – and the end of another wonderful month of GLBTQ Nude Pride. Reflection means many things to almost every person, it even has multiple definitions for every one of us. The image above depicts three different men holding a mirror. However, upon close inspection, only one image is reflected on the mirror itself. Yet that image isn’t one of the men above. So the question then becomes: Who’s image is it? And that answer we may never know.
My Summer, 2017, Reading List
What those who regularly read here already know, Summer is my favorite season of the year. Not only is it a time to wander outdoors bare, unburdened by clothes, but as an professional educator, it’s the time of year with no lessons to prepare or lectures to give. Much of my free time, spent outside, is in the company of a book. Reading mostly for pleasure and not research. Being bare at will and with books in the heat and humidity are the major reasons why I enjoy summers.
My Winter Reading List
Now that Spring is now officially here, it’s time to share the books that I read this past season. Winter isn’t the best time to find a quiet space outdoors, strip off all your clothes and read. True there may be a few moments where the weather is cooperative, the temperatures hover in the moderate range and it is possible to undress and read while comfortably naked. But those times are very few and very far between. Mostly, winter is too blustery and too barren to be bare in nature.
