It isn’t often that we, the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer (GLBTQ) people, have the occasion to mark a historical moment in time. Today is that one special moment upon which our community and most historians agree is the defining event that triggered and birthed the modern universal struggle for GLBTQ freedoms and rights worldwide. On this night, June 27-28, 1969, the patrons at the then illegal homosexual (as our community was then labelled) bar, the Stonewall Inn, located on Christopher Street in Greenwich Village, New York City, USA, rioted in reaction to government’s official discrimination, harassment, intimidation and oppression against same gender loving men and women and set into motion a global civil rights struggle for equality. National HIV Testing Day
Today is National HIV Testing Day in the USA and some other parts of the world. Observed on June 27, annually, this date is designated to remind us all of the importance of knowing our HIV status and in doing so, enhance our health. HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, is no longer the life-threatening condition that it once was and through treatment and medication, it is now a manageable disease. It remains, however, a communicable infection with serious consequences if untreated. That is the reason testing for HIV is very important to our health.
ReNude Pride This Week
This week is the final week of June, 2018. It is also the last week of 2018 GLBTQ Nude Pride Month. I am making a slight change in my publishing schedule for this week so as to accommodate all the necessary posts that should be covered before we begin a new month. This revised schedule is effective this week only, as hopefully, afterwards, I can return to the usual Monday and Friday posting routine. If anyone finds the time this week, please read the posts here. I will publish (today) this post, Wednesday (National HIV Testing Day), Thursday (annual Stonewall Riots anniversary), Friday (monthly Reflections post) and Saturday (Bottom’s-Up!).
Friday Footnote: GLBTQ Proud Veteran
I remember the day well. It was December, 2010, and the breaking news of the day was that then-President Barack Obama, the 44th president of the USA, had just signed an important piece of historical legislation. When his signature was affixed to the act, the centuries-old ban of allowing gays, lesbians and bisexuals to openly serve in the U. S. military forces was officially ended. Keeping to his campaign promise, President Obama put an end to another chapter in government sanctioned discrimination.
Bottom’s Up! April, 2018
Today is the last day of April, 2018. The end of the first full-month of Spring, 2018. For a while, it seemed as though this month was going to be an extension of the Winter here in the Mid-Atlantic region the East Coast, USA. Then, apparently, Mother Nature read the memo stating that Winter was officially over and seasonal weather is at last appearing in our area. The powers-that-be need to work on improving their communication network.
Finally!
I suppose I shouldn’t be so impatient, but I am at last able to share the fact that a “taste” of Spring-like temperatures have belatedly arrived in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area! By no means is the winter completely finished – I am much too savvy in the fickle patterns of weather to admit that. There are some aspects of life that never change and one of those is the reliability of our weather. The later days of this past week and the weekend provided us with a sampling of what’s (hopefully) coming our way!
Hello Spring!
Warning: Under no circumstance toss away your Winter outdoor gear or warm, snuggly blanket anytime soon! It may be officially and methodologically Spring now, but that fact doesn’t guarantee warmer temperatures anytime soon! Case in point, the second day of Spring had the northeastern region of the USA facing major snowfall, including the mid-Atlantic area where yours truly lives. I had to clean my car off twice: when I left in the early morning to take the subway into work and then again when I left the subway to return home.
ReNude Pride, 2018
Just as I’ve written here previously, the title of this site, ReNude Pride, is a play on the word, renewed. Just as the Springtime brings with it a renewal of life with the return of foliage on trees and flowers in nature, so to with the Springtime and being bare. In the Spring, for those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere, we also welcome with open arms a return to outdoor nudity as well as a return to nature and living clothes-free.
Bare With Us!
There is one common trait that is shared among almost all bare practitioners (naturists/nudists), regardless of their gender and their sexual orientation. In fact, it is probably the one thing that is universal to the entire clothes-free world. That is our ideal of encouraging our joy and love of nudity, of clothes-freedom, with as many people as possible. This is especially true when it concerns our closest and dearest of friends. For us, it is blatant neglect if we fail to get them to bare with us! We have so much fun when we’re nude that we want the same for others!
Bottoms-Up! February, 2018
Bottoms-Up!
Last day of February, 2018.
As we collectively bid farewell to this month, for those of you living in the Northern Hemisphere, I offer to you this consolation: we are also now saying good-bye to the final full month of the Winter of 2017-2018. When the last day of March comes around, we will officially be in the Spring, 2018! Winter will be nothing more than a memory!
