Spirit Day, 2025!

The colour purple represents “Spirit!

The purple stripe on the rainbow flag symbolizes the ideal: “Spirit!”

Spirit Day: an annual GLBTQ+ awareness day of recent development. It is currently observed on the third Thursday of the month of October as a part of our community and culture’s GLBTQ+ History Month. The occasion began in 2010 when a Canadian teenager, Brittany McMillan, in response to a significant number of bullying-related suicides of SGL students – the most infamous (at the time) being that of Tyler Clementi.

Footnote: Tyler Clementi was an American student at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He jumped to his death from the George Washington Bridge into the Hudson River at the age of 18. On September 19, 2010, Tyler’s dormitory roommate, Dharun Ravi, posted on Twitter a clip showing Tyler kissing another man. The Twitter posting was made and done without Tyler’s or his partner’s permission. The following night, Tyler committed suicide.

Tyler’s incident was publicised and the fact that his roommate intimidated him was newsworthy. Brittany McMillan became involved and promoted her “Purple Spirit Day” campaign through her facebook account. Reaction was both swift and widespread throughout North America. The Gay-Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) learned of Brittany’s crusade and joined with her as a sponsor of the event.

Stop Gay Bullying awareness ribbon!

GLAAD’s involvement brought national attention to the suicide prevention concerns and the need for anti-gay bullying initiatives. The level of attention the initiative attracted led to organised anti-bullying and especially anti-gay bullying activities and campaigns not only in North America but all over the globe. GLAAD’s participation ensured the problem would be addressed. Numerous universities adopted strong policies to combat and prevent any recurrence of Tyler Clementi’s action.

Promoted by GLAAD, participants wear the colour purple as a visible sign of awareness and support for GLBTQ+ young people specifically and against bullying in general. National Bullying Prevention Month in the USA is also during the month of October and additional attention and endorsements have prompted many persons to actively encourage others to become involved.

A secondary school teenager, Brittany has truly made a remarkable impact on the lives of many. The very first Spirit Day was held on Wednesday, 20 October 2010. The following year it was on Thursday, 20 October 2011 then followed by Friday, 19 October 2012. In2013, GLAAD made the decision to observe it on the third Thursday of the month.

USA: Indigenous People’s Day!

The Historical Confusion:

For years, the official name of the October federal (national) holiday was always “Columbus Day” – honouring Christopher Columbus, the Italian navigator/sailor who led the naval expedition to discover a new route to India and the East Indies from Spain. In attempting doing this task, he “discovered” the New World.

The legends surrounding Columbus sailing the Atlantic searching for a more timely/ faster route to the Far East often led people to believe that the new lands were barren and uninhabited – how else could he discover them? Also, as his day was supposedly a “national” holiday in the USA, where in this country did he land? He was an Italian sailing for the King and Queen of Spain. How did he rate a USA holiday?

Even more confusing, why was there no national holiday honouring the peoples who already lived in this newly “discovered” land? In addition, the Norse Vikings had previously established settlements along the coasts of what is now Canada. These settlers predated Columbus by more than a century.

Too much credit was given to Christopher Columbus for tasks not in his original mission. Also, successive Italian immigrants to this New World celebrated Columbus as the “godfather” of the New World. If not for his voyages, there would have been no deluge of immigrants from Europe into these new lands! The entire history of the whole world would be altered.

Indigenous = native!

All the attention and praise on the accomplishments of Columbus and the immigrants who stole the land of all the native peoples residing in this “new world!” No one bothered to offer the disastrous impact of the enormous slave trade or the ravages of imported diseases on the inhabitants of the Caribbean islands and both the northern and southern continents.

Wherever the European immigrants settled, the indigenous populations within that area were subject to the bias of the newcomers and their discrimination against the local natives. After all, they were bringing “civilisation” to this savage land!

Their civilized import prevailed, and this country began to celebrate “Columbus Day” exclusively. It remained that way until the people started to realize that we’re not giving any recognition to the earlier inhabitants here who preserved the lands, the livestock and the environment that thrived until immigration began.

Beginning in the early years of the 21st century, calendars are now listing the traditional “Columbus Day” holiday as “Columbus Day/Indigenous People’s Day.” Currently, calendars are now printed listing only the Indigenous People’s Day designation. Since Christopher Columbus didn’t actually “discover” a New World, he no longer needs a special honour. As the Italian people didn’t sponsor his voyages to the west, they made no contribution in exploring the new shores.

On this day, it is especially important to remember to honour, salute and pay tribute to the Indigenous Peoples of this site, ReNude Pride: Guys Without Boxers! A very special commendation to all bare practitioners!

Happy Indigenous People’s Day to everyone! We’re all indigenous to some region on this planet!

USA: GLBTQ+ History Month, 2025!

In the USA, the month of October, annually, is observed as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer + History Month!

Knowing our past enables our understanding of our present and empowers us to prepare for our future!

As a segment of the population that has been banned, blamed, discriminated, maligned, marginalized, punished and segregated, it is vitally important that we are all made aware of the major, notable, significant and vital contributions we have given throughout centuries of oppression and persecution. If we don’t celebrate and commemorate our achievements and advancements, who will?

Introduction:

Mentally, the phrase “gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer+ history month” (GLBTQ+ history month) produces an image that mistakenly projects the beginning of our GLBTQ+ community and culture as 1969. The year of the Stonewall Inn riots (SIR) in New York City, New York, USA.

Actually, historically and honestly, the story of our community and culture extends far back in time. Many persons believe that Adam and Eve were the first two human persons to inhabit the Earth. Obviously, they were a heterosexual couple. The GLBTQ+ story begins shortly thereafter and continues to unfold today.

In reality and in truth, the history of our GLBTQ+ community and culture begins with our global humanity experience, wherever we reside. It progresses along national boundaries once a political entity (nation) was created.

USA GLBTQ+ History Month:

The USA observance of GLBTQ+ History Month began in 1994 by a state of Missouri secondary school (high school) history teacher, Rodney Wilson. His intent was to provide role models for teenage youth, build community identity and to offer a civil rights statement of the achievements and efforts of the same gender loving (SGL) community and culture.

A GLBTQ+ History Month website was created, designed and launched by Equality Forum in 2006. In reference, click the link below:

Autumn Adaptability!

Bromance in early autumn!

Since my last posting here, Bare/Dare Series, 2025! #3, the season of autumn has arrived in the Northern Hemisphere. No surprise that this happened. I’m certain the majority are probably now wondering: Doesn’t that fool know that autumn always follow summer?

Yes! This fool (myself) does indeed have that knowledge! However, it has only been recently (since I first met Aaron, my spouse) that I’ve received the ability to accept and embrace that change and positively proceed with life!

Prior to 2010 (the year that Aaron and I met, were attracted to each other, fell in love and then moved together under the same roof), I was unable to acknowledge the last of summertime and the start of autumn without offering a manual monologue (sign language) of profanities! I was so addicted and obsessed with summer and being comfortable that I reacted to the seasonal transition in an outrage followed by a major period of depression and frustration!

I publicly acknowledge and admit to my severe shortcoming regarding this issue. I also want to thank Aaron for patiently teaching me the prayer attributed to St. Francis of Assisi:

“Lord, grant me the ability to change what I can; the ability to accept what I cannot change; and the wisdom to know the difference!” ~ St. Francis of Assisi ~

Aaron, I’m grateful for your sharing of your Roman Catholic faith and encouraging my adherence to this prayer!

Thank you, Aaron! Happy autumn to all!

Bare/Dare Series, 2025! #3

Identical siblings!

An Examination and Exploration of Our Community and Our Culture of Same Gender Loving Nakedness! #3

Identical Twins: Double the Nakedness, Double the Fun!

Preliminary:

As promised at the beginning of this series, this final offering for this publication was guaranteed prior to the end of the summer season as my personal perspective. Just a reminder that this post entry also includes that of my own identical twin brother, Alex. Sometimes, the sharing of our ideas, inspirations, memories, reactions, recollections, thoughts, etc., become blurred and riddled with questions. However, the experiences are shared and together as they involve us both – guilty and innocence – together!

We, Alex (Twin) and I, are identical; our births barely two hours apart. Therefore, we share our personal experiences in nakedness – the comfort, joy, and preference for living, as much as possible, our lives without the burden, duty and/or obligation of clothing/concealment!

Footnote: For this series, I use pictures of identical twins from online. Our brothers prefer I not use any from our childhood.

Identical and Serious: together!

Introduction:

Our family name is Poladopoulos and we are identical twin brothers born almost two hours apart. Alex – the “first-born” – is also Deaf, same gender loving (SGL) or gay and frequently confused with me, Roger, the author of this blog and the “second-born” of this twin team!

Our parents were born in the Kingdom of Greece during the time of the German invasion and occupation during World War II. They married and began their family there before immigrating to this country in the early 1950s. Neither of them became citizens here and they returned to Greece in the 1990s. We (Twin and I) have three (3) older brothers and three (3) younger brothers. That makes the both of us the exact “middle-child” in our family.

Our family household being predominantly male has caused many to assume our nakedness wasn’t a major issue.

A very false and unreal assumption!

Our infancy and early childhood progressed along the same pattern as that of our older siblings with the exception of our diagnosis of being Deaf. Otherwise, we were “normal” until our parents and older siblings decided to teach us to properly adorn (wear clothes) ourselves. Our “moment” to establish our true identity! Our joint (shared) “declaration of independence” was upon us!

Bottoms-up! to yardwork!

Reality:

Our initial opportunity to proclaim our self-determination (identity) happened when the decision was made to instruct us on the process of how to dress – put on clothes. At last, a chance to demonstrate (show) precisely who we really are! Twin and I are unable to exactly recall the experience, so this episode is best described by our surviving parent (mother) and older siblings.

The miraculous fascination that Twin (our familiar reference name for ourselves) and I had for learning how to decorate our bodies with clothes was that it also gave us the knowledge of how easy and simple it now became for us to remove (discard) our clothing!

The proverbial adage, “practice makes perfect” was the result of this lesson. Easy to put on, easy to take off! Our parents were amazed at the both of us getting dressed in garments and then removing them immediately! The essence and introduction into our world of “guys without boxers!” No underwear equals no clothes!

Needless to elaborate, but this basic logistic created an enormous amount of frustration within our family household. Our desire for freedom from clothes soon reached epic proportions that continued throughout our childhood. This conflict in nudity versus textile (clothes wearing) was compounded by a communication issue: our being Deaf against the fact that everyone else was verbal (hearing). At the time, the tensions in our family, along with the births of our younger brothers, made happiness and tranquility seem impossible!

Luckily, Twin and I shared a bedroom. Perhaps “identical” is synonymous with “shared!” Soon, our parents conceived of a compromise: we could be naked inside our bedroom if we agreed to wear clothes while elsewhere in our home. Our older siblings joined in this project, and while some awkward occurrences happened, tranquility returned to the Poladopoulos residence.

Footnote: Now, today, as a family, we all laugh when remembering this drama in our lives!

Calm and peaceful!

As we matured, our late Father eventually acknowledged to us all that the “bedroom nudity compromise” was initially considered only a temporary adjustment. Both parents believed we would grow away from this behaviour and the nude insistence was a developmental “phase” of our lives that would eventually disappear.

Our oldest sibling, Nick, (who “came out” as gay while at university), readily admitted to our family that at his young age, he briefly thought Twin and I were “double trouble!” At the time of this incident, he viewed our being Deaf as synonymous with our penchant for nakedness!

Sometimes, a “temporary” compromise affords a very rewarding and significant solution!

A doorway of twins!

As to the communication concern: our family all learned to manually share (sign language) – both in English and Greek! A process that remains underway still today with the addition of in-laws (sibling marriages), nieces and nephews!

Summary:

Life experiences provided Twin and I with an opportunity to explore, firsthand, the world of nakedness. It afforded us a chance to examine and explore our perspectives, reactions and involvement! These same life experiences reinforced, both internally and in reality, our identical appreciation and commitment to nakedness that we both share!

Naked hugs!

September Routine!

University lecture!

Preliminary:

Please understand that the above image is completely for representative purposes. My university where I’m employed does not permit us clothing-optional classroom or instructional privileges. We’re funded by the Congress, so that situation will be available only at the very end of time!

The Event:

It is now September 2025, and the Labour Day holiday has already happened. Unofficially, here in the USA, the Summer of 2025 is now over—although meteorologically we still have two more weeks of summer before the official transition into the autumn season! In other words, a not-so-subtle reminder to get out there, remove your clothing, and revel in nakedness while it is still possible to do so! Soon, the weather will change, and clothes will become a necessity!

The September Routine involves the return to the classroom (work) after the always all-too-brief summer respite from the educational podium! I enjoyed the holiday from having to commute and report to work daily; however, I also enjoy my job and the benefits and opportunities it affords.

Fortunately, no mathematics involved!

In addition to my classes that I facilitate, I also have two faculty committees that I am assigned. Luckily, I’ve served on these for several years now so the workload is both familiar and part of my academic routine. Hopefully, no unforeseen surprises await me this Autumn semester! However, the dean of my school of instruction is considering a new area of expansion and he has already approached me about not only supporting the assignment but also provisional leadership. He has promised it to be an “interesting” opportunity!

No, this new committee is not clothes free!

Also, another aspect of the September routine is the recollection of the summer freedom from clothing! The memory brings a smile to my face, every time!

At least, tomorrow is a new day!

Too Much?

Anniversary extension!

The announced and planned post entry for this past Monday, 18 August, 2025, never occurred and my spouse, Aaron, and I both share the blame for that mishap! We’re just too much in love and we’ll only have one 10th anniversary. A very “last minute” (spontaneous) decision on our part for an extended anniversary celebration: a bromantic (he and me) extended weekend away from our routine to a Florida clothing optional resort that we’ve never visited before.

Our weekend ended yesterday: Thursday, 21August. I did mention an “extended” weekend, correct? We added four days and a renewal of ourselves!

Together!

This impulsive adventure was totally unplanned. We had discussed an excursion of this nature in the past but never actually realized that it didn’t really require that much attention to detail. After all, we’re usually “clothing optional” around our condominium/home anyway. So we had minimal need for any “official” wardrobe. Just the two of us being our natural selves.

Passion!

We do apologize to anyone if our spontaneity created any inconvenience for you. It was unintentional although irresponsible from the both of us. Please know that we both regret the error and can assure all of you that we’ll do our best to avoid any similarity in the future.

Naked hugs!

Post-Publication Update: added 10:30a.m. 22 August: Monday’s scheduled posting is “August Antics!”

Marvelous Monday: Skinny-Dipping, 2025!

“Towers of Doom”

Introduction:

In the previous posting here, August Play-Day, 2025!, I broached the topic of referring to August Play-Month rather than “play-day” as the entire month of August appeared to be “fun oriented!” The higher the outside temperatures rise, the instances of excitement and playfulness climb (rise), too!

Aaron, my spouse and I both agree that there is simply no time for us to sit back and complain of “nothing to do.” It is, after all, summer and there’s always a body of water – somewhere – to remove all clothing and to dive into! Not only is the month of August here; it is also time to skinny-dip (swim naked) as a means of celebration! Skinny-dipping is relaxing, refreshing, rejuvenating and f-u-n!

Blue water skinny-dipper!

The phrase, skinny-dipping (swimming naked), is an American colloquialism that the author, Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens, 30 November, 1835 – 21 April, 1910) popularized with his literary characters Tom Sawyer and also Huckleberry Finn in the days of Southern rural communities in the middle 1800s.

The term skinny-dipping is relatively new as it didn’t emerge for many until after World War II ended. The enormous numbers of young men enrolled in the armed services against Germany, Italy and Japan brought together millions from all geographical areas of this country. The traditional rural Southern term, skinny-dipping, began to gain and grow in comprehension and recognition once they were discharged from defence service and returned home. The majority of young men entering the armed forces once the war began grew up reading Mark Twain’s novels. Thus the nickname (slang) for swimming naked became popular.

Celebrity spokes-model Phoenix Fellington at a clothing optional beach!

The exact origins of the slang term, skinny-dipping, is unknown. The popular conjecture is that skinny is used to denote “naked” to describe the swimsuit (skin). Dipping is thought to refer to the entry into the natural body of water a person would dive (dip) into. Hence skinny-dipping instead of swimming naked.

Few, if any, of the rural Southern areas had the financial resources to construct (build) an outdoor pool. This resulted in the early post-war skinny-dippers only having access to natural bodies of water (lakes, oceans, rivers, etc.). Skinny-dipping was affordable for everyone. The only “cost” was the effort necessary to remove one’s clothes and jump into the natural body of water!

A contemporary “pool” skinny-dipper!

Marvelous Monday Mentality!

An aspect of skinny-dipping that is too frequently ignored and/or overlooked is the attitude that accompanies the pleasure! It is a mindset evolution the naked swimmers absorb that produces positive energy and perspective! A POV (point-of-view) that is almost exclusive to skinny-dipping enthusiasts and their outlook!

Throughout our modern world, there can be found an almost universal bemoaning and dread of the arrival of Monday and in particular, Monday mornings! It represents a “return to the routine,” especially regarding the “work week.” The mundane life is back into place with little or no chance of any change.

A mundane Monday morning!

Yet in the lives and the perceptions of the swim clothes free population, quite the opposite is the reality. Their Monday is of the happy arrival of another full week – seven glorious days – skinny dipping! A repeat of all the aquatic antics and pleasures a person can enjoy minus the nuisance burden of wearing swimsuits! Among this community, naked swimming is in place for an “instant replay!” A substantial day in, day out existence to highlight their summer season!

A bonus for all of us who engage in swimming while bare, weather isn’t a major concern. If it happens to be a day of rain – no problem! Bodies of water, whether natural or man-made (pools), are both wet – as is the rain. Skinny dipping remains doable even during a rain shower. However, thunderstorms remain hazardous. Lightening and wetness are most definitely not compatible!

We are now living in our 21st century, some progress has been made regarding the skinny-dipping world. Man-made bodies of water – pools, whether enclosed or outside – are now possible locations for clothes free swimming activities!

We now have the option of removing our swimsuit once we gain access to the pool. Just take it off! Skinny-dipping is not a difficult chore to master!

The discarded swimsuit can be placed along the pool edge and now let all the “naked-fun-in-the-sun!” commence!

Naked hugs!

Author’s Note: The next post entry here is planned for Friday, August 8, 2025, and the proposed topic is: “The Bare/Dare Series! #1”

The Bare/Dare Series, 2025!

Bare/Dare Series is coming!

Prologue:

One serious project, as the author of the ReNude Pride: Guys Without Boxers!, is to constantly identify new topics to address concerning bare practitioners as well as subjects relating to our being same gender loving (SGL) – bisexual or gay – in addition to our preference for nakedness. It is indeed far easier and simpler to complacently repeat over and over concepts, ideas and topics already covered in previous post entries here. However, that quickly becomes boring, lackluster and very repetitious!

In trying to keep informative, interesting and thoughtful, one must also be both creative and imaginative while pursuing newer aspects of being a bare practitioner in today’s world. This search presents challenges, experiences and opportunities to expand our knowledge, help us to grow as members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer+ (GLBTQ+) community and culture and as proponents of the nakedness community and culture.

The respected ancient adage: “Variety is the spice of life!” is applicable and current today as it was centuries ago!

Jason Vario (left) and Daymin Voss (right)!

Introduction:

The result of the most recent research for different and resourceful items to offer here is the title of this particular post entry here today: The Bare/Dare Series, 2025! The intended purpose of this series is to examine our nakedness and how it is influenced by our life experiences, attitudes and social factors. We’ll explore how we, personally, determine our own limitations on our being bare and how that decision impacts our lives. Then we will focus on the various ways we adapt our levels of expectations and tolerances of our levels of nakedness, both individually and/or socially.

This The Bare/Dare Series, 2025! will consist of three (3) post entries here. The plan is to publish all three postings before the end of the current summer season in the Northern Hemisphere. This deadline serves two purposes: a) those in the Northern Hemisphere who wish to “sample” the bare practitioner experience will be able to do so before the external weather evolves and b) those living in the Southern Hemisphere have the chance to incorporate any new concepts/ideals into their routines prior to the advent of their summertime.

In both hemispheres, regardless of the season, anyone curious about nudity can use the presentations in whatever manner they desire/prefer.

Felipe Ferreira: a sandy profile!

A reminder to all that there is, to the best of our knowledge, no official “rule book” or guideline for engaging in nakedness. Both Aaron, my spouse, and I know of many persons and/or organizations who consider themselves in an authoritative capacity or position but we are unable to determine what entitled that distinction.

It remains the responsibility of each person to decide their personal level of comfort with their nudity!

Spontaneous Surprise!

Beach trip!

Preface:

Not the promised posting but then, there are times when even the best prepared arrangements somehow go awry – especially when good friends decide to surprise a couple anticipating a major accomplishment in their lives! This happened to Aaron, my spouse, and I last weekend! Unfortunately, this generous and kind gesture also impacted this site, ReNude Pride: Guys Without Boxers! Fortunately, we were able to remain both bare and boxer-free!

My BBF (best bare friend) Jay and his partner, Raheem, flew into our Arlington condominium (expected) and surprised us with a 4-day reservation for the four of us at a suite near the Sandy Hook Beach in New Jersey as a surprise for Aaron and myself and our approaching anniversary. Aaron had been advised to take off work and – of course – I am on summer holiday from university!

Sandy Hook is close to New York City where we had dinner on Monday evening. Aaron and I had planned to treat Jay and Raheem to dinner while they were visiting us. Only the location changed as we were no longer in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area!

Sandy Hook is a very popular site with its very own unofficial SGL beach area that is notoriously clothing optional! Needless to elaborate, the four of us are very dedicated bare practitioners!

Approaching incoming waves!

Unplanned:

This unplanned trip was enjoyed by the four of us. The weather was typical summer offerings and provided us with opportunities to explore and revisit a place that held memories of previous summer antics. The unfortunate aspect is the projected posting entry for earlier this week that I had announced but didn’t have the freedom nor the time to complete in order to meet the deadline.

I apologize for the confusion and inconvenience this may have caused and accept the responsibility. However, this is the holiday season for me and this trip not only gave me a time to spend time with Aaron but my BBF and his “man” (Raheem) and all the sand, surf and sun!

I can now with all honesty openly admit that I am a completely recharged, rejuvenated and authentically renewed (renude) man who has some of his depleted energy restored. This is something that I urge everyone to explore as our summer season is regrettably approaching conclusion! Make every sunray worthwhile!

Sand, surf and sunshine!

The Bare/Dare Series:

The announced Bare/Dare Series that was projected for this past Monday, 21 July, remains in draft format and will be published here this upcoming Monday. The series is proposed to contain three separate post entries and as of now, that plan remains intact. I just need to take a concentrated look at what is available when Jay and Raheem depart early tomorrow (Saturday) morning.

Once again, I am sorry for any confusion that I may have caused anyone. Sometimes flexibility is a difficult task to successfully complete!
