As a friendly reminder to everyone who promised themselves to try outdoor nudity this season, a transition will happen in about four weeks. In the Northern Hemisphere, summer will become autumn. In the Southern Hemisphere, winter will become spring. In other words, time is running out. If you want to keep your promise, the time to strip off those clothes is now! If you wait until the last minute and discover that you really enjoy being bare, it becomes a wasted effort and a lost opportunity.
Today, August 15, is our (Aaron, my spouse and myself) third wedding anniversary. Three years of marital bliss and harmony! All right, I’ll try to be real and amend that to be three years of one year of compromise (33.3%), one year of bliss (33.3%) and one year of tolerance (33.3%). It has been happy, fun and adjustment, but we both agree it’s much better than eight years of nothingness. If you’re having trouble with the math, we lived together and shared the same bed for five years and three months before we stood before a justice of the peace and promised ourselves to one another!
Before any inundates me with negative comments, no, I am not laughing at the fact that people are bare (naked, nude)! Well, yes I am if the situation is funny but as to ridiculing anyone just because they are clothes-free? Never. That’s a very emphatic n-e-v-e-r! Never! But there are times when we bare practitioners (naturists/nudists) find ourselves in predicaments that are strange, unusual and funny! That’s what this post here is all about. The levity of life as a person who practices nudity, whether alone or as a social nudist.
The The Naturist Society (TNS) and the American Association For Nude Recreation (AANR) are observing tomorrow, Saturday, July 14, 2018, as International Skinny-Dipping Day. Grab a friend, strip out of those clothes and jump into a body of water for some old-fashioned style swimming in just your natural skin. For those who live in colder climates, a heated indoor pool is highly recommended. No one wishes frost-bite on anyone, although I’m sure there are a few who would welcome a cooling experience from the summer’s heat and humidity!
When I first saw these video clips, my thoughts were returned to an earlier time in my life when I falsely assumed it was my ordained mission in my life to convert the entire universe into practicing nudity. I envisioned someday being canonized the Patron Saint of All Naturists/Nudists Forever, Amen. You may commence the celestial angelic drum-roll now, if you please! Admittedly, I was young and foolish but at least I was thinking big and trying to find a worthy cause to champion. Alas, reality set in by the time that I graduated secondary school and I eventually became a professor.
One doesn’t necessarily have to be Canadian to celebrate Dominion of Canada Day. This international day honoring the maple leaf (the leaf silhouetted on the flag) is open and welcoming to everyone (unlike its neighbor to the south). This observance commemorates the enactment of the British North America Act on July 1, 1867, which officially united the colonies of Canada (then just Ontario and Quebec), Nova Scotia and New Brunswick into the larger, autonomous Dominion of Canada. It is celebrated as the national holiday of Canada (although with today being Sunday, tomorrow is also a holiday).
It isn’t often that we, the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer (GLBTQ) people, have the occasion to mark a historical moment in time. Today is that one special moment upon which our community and most historians agree is the defining event that triggered and birthed the modern universal struggle for GLBTQ freedoms and rights worldwide. On this night, June 27-28, 1969, the patrons at the then illegal homosexual (as our community was then labelled) bar, the Stonewall Inn, located on Christopher Street in Greenwich Village, New York City, USA, rioted in reaction to government’s official discrimination, harassment, intimidation and oppression against same gender loving men and women and set into motion a global civil rights struggle for equality. I remember the day well. It was December, 2010, and the breaking news of the day was that then-President Barack Obama, the 44th president of the USA, had just signed an important piece of historical legislation. When his signature was affixed to the act, the centuries-old ban of allowing gays, lesbians and bisexuals to openly serve in the U. S. military forces was officially ended. Keeping to his campaign promise, President Obama put an end to another chapter in government sanctioned discrimination.
It is now official, today is June 21, the Summer Solstice. The Summer of 2018 is now underway and this is the time to get outside, get out of those cumbersome clothes and enjoy life! This season will not last forever so promise yourself to make each moment last! Whatever your plans are for the season, don’t forget that sunscreen is essential for happiness and health! Remember the sunglasses. The sun’s at its peak this time of year (in the Northern Hemisphere) and the ultra-violet sun-rays can seriously damage the eyes!
Sunday, June 17, 2018, is Father’s Day here in the USA. It isn’t a public holiday as it is observed on the third Saturday in June, annually. It is, however, a day where we all try to honor our fathers, as we did our mothers on the second Sunday in May. We also commemorate fatherhood, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers in our society. It is held on many different days throughout the world with the most common being during the months of March, April and June.
